Opting Out Before Installation

If you choose to opt out before FirstEnergy installs the smart meter, you won’t incur an upfront charge. However, you will be responsible for paying the monthly fee of $28.29 for manual meter readings.

Opting Out After Installation

If FirstEnergy has already installed the smart meter, you’ll have to pay a removal and replacement fee of $41.72. Afterwards, you’ll be responsible for paying the $28.29 monthly manual reading fees.
